37 dead & many hospitalised after consuming illicit liquor in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu
The death toll in the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy rose to 38 with 29 more people losing their lives after consuming spurious liquor at Karunapuram in Kallakurichi on June 18, 2024.
Thirty-seven people died in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district after consuming methanol-laced liquor. Fifty-five others are hospitalised. The state government has suspended several officials, including the district police chief and the Collector while the case has been transferred to the CB-CID.
